In her coat pocket, Eve would find a yellowed envelope, closed with the Family's wax seal. The writing on the outside was rough but elegant, reading 'To Evey, break seal in case of parental death'

Dear Snowflake,

If you're reading this, then I must be dead. I'm guessing that you know that, so I shouldn't keep pointing it out, but you're a tough girl, you can take your old man pointing out the painfully obvious! Yeah... Wow, I hope I didn't die ridiculously like that pathetic Jade character... I bet there was an intense final battle with explosions... Or maybe I just caught salmonella from all that raw meat. Can that kill someone? Either way: WORTH IT.

ANYWAY I trust you've kept the Family going strong, staying classy, and all that stuff we talked about. I know you can get distracted with your little boy toys, but my little snowflake always comes through for her daddy! Now, you know how important it is to keep everything inside that prison in order, so I think it's about time I tell you some things that you'll need to know in order to not share my fate, whatever it may have been.

I've seen lots of things in my life, Eve! I was once a young boy full of swag and yolo too! Well, I did pick up some...rather crucial information during those days of.my youth. You see.. Lots of things are not exactly as they seem. Charles Paladin, he created this prison, and some may even be fooled into believing it was with good intentions...but do not, under any circumstances, trust that man. I cannot write it all down for you explicitly, Eve, they would find a way to make sure this never got to you if I did, but I know you can figure this out. Just... Beware of Charles Paladin and beware of the Mistress. I may have conformed to working with them in the past, but they are most definitely NOT anyone you should be keeping as company, you hear?

I'll spread more clues for you if I can, Evey, but there's only so much I can give away... On a lighter note, have you finally started eating meat the right way? More importantly, how much testosterone does your current...companion...have? I will not accept anything below 300% of average levels! Not just any pansy is worthy of my little snowflake. Keep up the good work, sweetie, I will always love you and believe in you, you know that.

Sophia sort of just ended up shrinking back behind Eve as the two women continued speaking, the icy tones in their voices- or, at least Eve's- feeling almost colder than the snow beneath their feet. She was quiet even after the Mistress left, eying the place she'd disappeared to suspiciously before she cautiously stepped up to Eve's side, her hands buried deep in her pockets. "... At least the whore left?" she suggested, smiling timidly at the blonde- before suddenly Kayden was glomping her, causing her to yelp in shock and stumble a little, clinging to him to try and keep from falling over. "Kayden!! You nearly made me fall over," she laughed, smiling happily as she kissed his cheek. She... felt safer when he was there. No matter how crazy he became, he did care for her... and though she knew Eve would protect her too, there was something more comforting about being in his arms- it just didn't compare. "I'm happy to see you..." Gently, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him, before twisting some while still holding on so she could look at Eve and see what they were supposed to do next.

Kayden was hugging onto Sophia and grinning, seeming quite cheerful, as he spoke,
"Me 'n Atticus came t' pick ya up! Figured that we could have ourselves a double date, or somethin'! And--" he was cut off when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and he reached down, into his pocket, and pulled out the phone, checking the message. He read through it, his smile slowly disappearing as his expression became progressively more neutral. "...Huh. It's from Scia...she says that Paladin's tryin' t' play us for saps. Sounds like everyone's makin' a plan back at th' mansion...think we should join 'em?"

As Eve watched the Mistress smoothly glide away from the Black Market... slowly, her hands uncrossed from her chest, falling limply to her sides. A long, forlorn and heavy sigh drew from her lips as her gaze fell downcast... did she... not care about the Family`s future...? What kind of position was she in... to be dragging the Family`s name through mud? After her Father had put in so many hours, so much blood and sweat and tears-- just to make it what it was. Yet, with his absence... what was it? Nothing. Nothing that could rival Vulture Team. Nothing that could support No Man`s Land without desperately clinging to Paladin... and in the end of the day, it was all on her, wasn`t it...? Maybe... if she had spent less time oogling guys in a wedding dress, and more time making something of herself-- the Family wouldn`t be where it was. She should have been there to hold the line once her time came... and as someone who saw No Man`s Land as her birth right-- she was doing a pretty shitty job fighting for it, wasn`t she...?

She tensed. For a moment, she was about to call the Mistress back-- but, her voice had caught in her throat, and the woman was already long gone. Why did she do that...? Why was she so prideful? She`d seen what the Mistress could make of a man-- who was she to deny that? She looked up slightly as she heard Sophia`s voice, which seemed to startle her-- until realization sunk in, and she smiled gently at the girl. "A-Ah... yeah..." She mumbled, before turning away slightly, as if to try to distance herself. The blonde slowly slid her hands down to place them into her pockets... when, she felt an uncounted presence in her coat pocket. "Hm--?" She blinked, her lips twitching into a frown, before pressing her hands deep into her coat--- and cringing slightly as she felt the corner of an envelope prick against her finger. Carefully, she tugged the envelope out, taking a moment to absorb the image of the Family`s wax seal... and the writing on the front. "...Excuse me," She muttered to Kayden and Sophia, not even seeming to have registered what the greenette had said before swiftly walking away from the couple, off to a private alley. She pressed her back against a wall, exhaling deeply... before eagerly, but gingerly, moving her fingers under the seal to pop it open, and removing the letter inside from it`s confinement.

Slowly, as to preserve the folds of the letter, Eve opened it, and before reading, she just stared. How was it... that she had never seen this letter before...? After a few more moments of what could be called mental preparation-- with bated breath, her eyes begun to carefully scan through the contents of the letter. And, she was... in no way, shape, or form, prepared for the mixture of emotions it`s few words would supply her with. Needless to say- she was so absorbed in the letter, it wasn`t until she felt the dampness on her cheeks that she noticed the tears flowing freely from her eyes. She was sure a thin trail of black traced along the area as well, dark with now-smudged makeup. She moved her hand from her cheek to place it over her mouth instead-- though, she wasn`t sure if she was doing this to hide her growing smile or not...

Shaky hands folded the letter back into place, and gently slipped it into it`s envelope. She... was right. This... this meant something. If she was going to return the Family to it`s rightful position at the top of the food chain-- then... she`d do that without the help of Paladin, or Black Dragon. If No Man`s Land was her birth right, then, she`d conquer it on her own.
It did take her a while to return from the alley. But, eventually, she did-- with her beloved letter neatly stowed away in her coat`s pocket. She made her way back over to Kayden and Sophia, her hands tight fists at her sides. "We need to return to the mansion-" She said sternly, unaware that Kayden had basically said the exact same thing earlier-- "Atticus came with you? With his car?" She continued, not really noticing that she was sort of glaring at Kayden rather menacingly. If her father left other... 'clues' for her to unravel the mystery surrounding this city-- then, what better place to place them then at their home...?

Atticus was around leaning against a wall, smoking a cigarette. He didn't want to bother them, and he was contemplating what to say to Eve, something maybe he said when he was...alive...before. Thinking that kind of made him feel a little weird, but this was the first time he'd smoked in a while, and it did feel pretty familiar to him. He listened to the small conversation and then walked over.
"Hey Laney Poo." he said, his tone a bit more flirty then his normal voice. "I brought the car. You wanna go then?" he asked. He hoped that he could get his flirting mojo back soon.

Sophia blinked as Kayden explained what was going on, a small frown gracing her features before she blinked, lifting her head hesitantly. "Eve...?" But the woman was already gone, and Sophia frowned as she watched her go, unsure of whether she should follow or not. She wanted to- yet... it wasn't her place. Instead, she clung a little tighter to Kayden, lost in her own thoughts while the blonde read through her letter. When at last the other woman returned, something had changed- and though she didn't know what, she did show concern for the other for a moment before pulling away from Kayden, nodding to Eve. "Hey, are you- ..." The young woman, about to question Eve, fell silent as Atticus turned a corner, biting her lip some before backing into Kayden and ducking her head. This was none of her business- as worried as she was, she would hold her tongue... at least for a little while.

Kayden was about to answer Eve's question, when suddenly, Atticus turned the corner, answering the question for him. He listened to the man as he spoke to Eve, then leaned in close to Sophia's ear and whispered,
"Th' hell is a 'Laney-poo'? He's got himself twisted 'round backwards if he thinks that callin' his girlfriend a poo is gonna get 'im anywhere--" He looked around at the others then, and grinned. "Alright then! If we're goin' in th' car, let's go now! I'm pretty sure we've got plenty t' do back in Highend!" And with that, he grabbed Sophia's arm, dragging her over to the car and opening the door up before pulling her into the backseat and comfortably cuddling up close to her. "All set t' go, here!"

Eve had honestly been too caught up in her mind to hear Atticus` odd nickname-- until Kayden called it out, that was. He glanced over to the greenette, about to say something- when Atticus did thing first. So... she figured she just--- wouldn`t address that now. They could get back to the flirting thing when she didn`t have letters from her father to find. "R-Right..." She allowed him to lead her over to the car, sitting rather frumpily and seatbelt-less as they drove along.

Jo`s revolver clicked with each bullet that burned through it`s barrel-- luckily enough, it was aimed at the sky, not at all harming the now very startled and volatile crooks lurking about the Black Market. "LISTEN UP, YA DIRTY MOOKS--!" She shot again, gathering up the remainder of attention that had not been placed on her. Enabled by the moment, a grin flickered across her features- but, she caught it, and replaced it with her own menacing glower. "New era`s tryna start in this city- and Paladin`s having none of that--! Seems you`ve all forgotten what awful pieces of shit ya are-- we`re here to remind ya! Therefore- this here Black Market? Belongs to Paladin!" She propped her feet up on a passing booth- and kicked it back, knocking both the smuggler behind the stand and his supplies tumbling onto the floor, as if further illustrating her point. She may not have liked the faction she was aligned with all too much- but, so long as they were giving her the authority to threaten people...? She was all for Paladin--!
Jo walked out to the center of the Black Market, waving her revolver around threateningly-- and occasionally stopping on certain targets, causing them to back away in panic. "Anyone with any sorta problem with that can take it up with me!" She paused her strut to twirl the shafts of her firearms about her fingers rhythmically- not missing a beat as she flipped it upward soon after, caught it- and used it to aim and fire ad the feet of a passing bystander. "C`mon, c`mon! SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YER PEACE!" Without waiting for a response, she shot up again- then chuckled, darkly. "Uno, dos, thres--! No one opposes me?! That`s what I thought- the Black market and all it`s supplies belong to Paladin, ya ninnies!"

Yet, she always had such an attitude whenever it was time to relax, Jo was a confusing woman. With a legion of Paladin guards behind him, Zombie walked out onto the Black Market, getting to Jo "Brought some guards... we should probably get them here to guard this place. So I guess we own the Black Market...." Zombie looked around, he was still sorta new to this city "Does... does that matter...? Wow these guys really aren't going to fight back? It's like they're used to this happening-"

Jo was pretty damn proud of herself- she blamed it on the rush of power, something that had been missing from her day-to-day routine since her forced leave from Vulture Team. Either way, adrenaline was pumping through her blood despite the lack of activity- it showed in her energized body language. She was more than ready to beat something up-- sadly, no one really was coming to retaliate...
She piped up some when she heard the approach of footsteps, eagerly turning to the source-- which ended up being Zombie, Rommel, and a generously sized army of guards. She sighed, shoulders dropping- and turned back around to look over the area nonchalantly as Zombie spoke to her. She offered something of a shrug and a nod, approving of the idea of leaving guards behind to ensure this area remained their`s, then listened as Rommel chimed in. "This place`s pretty important, don`t get me wrong-- and it ain`t like every other smuggler`s necessarily a dirty jobber... but the Black Market tends to be where people head first in a war. For supplies, control of the city`s economy-- all that stuff. Which is why it`s--... well, weird- that no one else was here first... but, hey- I`m not complaining!" She grinned, snickering-- but soon enough, her grin began to falter, her eye welling up in what looked like saddened disappointment. "...Or... maybe I am... I---...I was kinda looking forward to doing something..." She paused, contemplating and bringing a hand to rest thoughtfully upon her chin... before turning back to Zombie and Rommel, eyebrows raised. "Do you think Charles would be okay with us going and taking more territory--? He`d like that, right--?! We should do that--?! I mean, clearly, we`re on a roll already-"

Really, at this point Zombie was just playing along, partly because he, like Jo, needed to blow off steam "Yeah, I think Charles' would be happy with us just stealing territory. I mean, he asked us to take the black market, why not take the next step and just take half the city? Based off the fact that no one else is here, I'd guess that all these guys are generally giant pussies and-" Zombie tapped his rifle against his shoulder, which sent his rifle off. He ended up shooting a smuggler in the shin behind him "Whoops. Haha!" that made Zombie happier "Alright, should we go?" he asked Jo, generally not minding

"Pffha-- grinch. I`m using that..." Jo murmured, chuckling in amusement and glancing over the area once more, watching the Paladin guards quickly get to work. It`d been ages since she`d seen actual guards sent out into the city itself... Charles knew what this war meant-- he must`ve been watching from afar to know what kind of dangers No Man`s Land could cook up...
She listened to both Rommel and Zombie, grinning all the more as they both happened to agree-- this was gonna be fun. Zombie insisting that all the other factions were, bluntly put, total pussies-- made her pause for a beat, however. Vulture Team certainly wasn`t made of total pussies... what should happen if Vulture Team and Paladin arrived on the same territory--? Would Charles change his mind then...?
Her train of thought flickered away like a candle, her subconscious forcing it out before she could dwell any further. "Well, if you guys insist--" She was cut off by the sound of a rifle firing- right into the shin of a smuggler. For a moment, her expression dropped into that of mild concern-- before she forced a smile, giggling quietly. "Nice- no but really, I need to put on my thinking cap--" Her sight dropped to the ground- and it didn`t take her more than a second to pick their next location. "You know what`ll really look nice under Paladin`s banner...? Conqueror Town. Place is practically useless... but, hey- we could always build over the rubble. Buildings to explode... buildings that belonged to old enemies to explode..." Slowly, the splitting smile returned to her face- and she gripped her revolver a bit tighter, turning to the rest. "WE HEAD TO CONQUEROR TOWN, THEN!"
Without waiting for approval- she dashed off on her way, and shot at the feet of another smuggler for good measure. Classic!

"Conqueror Town eh...?" Zombie hoisted his rifle over his shoulder again, luckily no one was shot "Well I don't got any sympathy for the wicked... so this'll be fun as hell... heh..." Zombie quickly followed. He had heard of Conqueror Town, and Conqueror Worm. Everything about them just seemed ridiculous and silly, he actually found their entire existence to be somewhat of a joke. Of course, once it became more clear that they were just Black Dragon's tools, they became more of a threat, but this only lessened Zombie's respect for them "I'm all for blowing shit up..." Zombie spoke quietly before walking off, it was up to the Paladin guards to keep the area secure now.

Sophia was quiet as she slid around the shadows of the Black Market, peering onto the more open streets quietly- only to see foot soldiers all over. She frowned, examining them from afar- before noticing something. Well shit...
"Sophia here- we're too late. Someone else got here already- looks like Paladin. I don't see any officers present however- what do you want me to do?"
She pressed send, waiting until her phone said Paul had received the message to slip it back into her pocket and work on getting up onto a roof where she could see better, simply watching and waiting quietly.

Zombie made it over to the Black Market, limping over to a camp set up by some footmen. That was a total disaster, so many disasters in a row, Paladin was supposed to be a professional military suit, yet they seemed to be suffering embarrassing defeated after defeat at the hand of mere criminals. Zombie couldn't help but laugh. Falling down into a chair at the camp, he let out a sigh "That was a total fucking disaster..." he muttered "A TOTAL fucking disaster...!" he yelled outward, he just wanted to see if the others were okay... who was alive? Who was dead? Nathan was terrified, he didn't know what the future had in store for him.

Rommel stumbled to the black market, holding his not arm and looking down.
"Nurse....check please....extra crisp-" the drug had worn off during that fight, and he hit the ground, out cold. He was still bleeding a considerable amount, his wounds were pretty bad. Bullet wounds, slash marks, and missing an arm, Rommel was not a happy camper, not that he could say anything about it.

Jasper made his way back to the Black Market quietly, head down and mask still on, as well as a hand over his side and the other on his shoulder. He was in pain, still bleeding too from the impact of two bullet wounds in the same shoulder in a short amount of time- but he ignored it and instead simply sat down on the ground, legs curled in close to his chest as he loosened his mask a little and rubbed his hand over his face, actually managing to avoid getting blood on his face- for the moment. When a nurse tried to approach him, he waved her off, refusing treatment. He'd be fine- he wasn't that badly injured, Rommel needed treatment more than he did... He wasn't going to allow them to take any degree of focus off the other when he himself wasn't in danger.

"FUCKERS--! DIDN`T CHARLES ORDER ANY SERIOUSLY INJURED MEN TO THE WALLS--?! THE FUCK ARE YOU NUMSKULLS HANGING AROUND FOR?! GET THIS MAN TO A FUCKIN` MEDIC, YA PICKLE THIEVES--!" Several gunshots rang through the air again as Jo barked at a chunk of Paladin guards-- as if the smugglers of the Black Market hadn`t had enough of this. "C`MON MOVE IT, MOVE IT, MOVE IT--! TEN HUT MOTHERFUCKERS--!" Footmen rushed to meet her command, rushing toward Rommel hurriedly- it ended up being a several man effort to lift Rommel off the ground and begin carrying him to the Walls. However, still both frustrated and embarrassed, Jo released a heavy aggravated sigh, combing a blood soaked hand through her blue mane. She was still for several long, fraught moments- before she kicked at the ground below, then kicked a nearby stand-- startling the smuggler trying to hide behind it. "Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuuuuuuuuuckthem--" Was her mantra as she paced in small, aggressive circles, hands clenched tight at her sides- she was clearly having a hard time with the defeat. So much so that she found it in her to ignore the fact that she had left a trail of blood wherever she went- though, one hand did remain glued to the prominent wound on her arm, the limp in her step all the more detectable through the small loss of balance. She didn`t know what happened out there... something about their opponents caused a spike in her anxiety-- and while that wasn`t anything particularly new to her... she wish she knew what caused it. She supposed it most likely had to do with the psychic constructs being thrown about all willy-nilly-- god, she hated psychics... But, hey- Superman had kryptonite, Jo had psychics-- she needed some kind of weakness, didn`t she...?
Her halfhearted attempt at a joke in her inner monologing didn`t help to ease her frustration much at all- letting out another agonized and obnoxious groan, she finally ceased her isolation from the rest of her squad mates, though still refused to meet anyone`s eye...
Inna could be dead... they didn`t know about Rommel yet... and why--? Because she picked that location, of all the choices she had- she just had to pick the one that guy was gonna put his sights on. She had no one to blame but herself for this mess... and damn if she didn`t hate coming to that conclusion...
She`d been about to sit on the ground and mope herself- if not for the fact that she caught sight of Jasper doing the very same. Too caught up in her shame, she originally hadn`t been planning to approach him at all... until, of course, she got a look at the bright blotch of red exuding from his shoulder. That certainly wasn`t a good sign.
After a touch of hesitation- she grumbled something to herself, making her way over and dropping onto her knees next to the whitette-- without any verbal indication of what she was up to, Jo suddenly pushed his jacket off his shoulder. Then, she paused to take her combat knife from her belt, flipping that in her hand and eyeing it momentarily-- before turning back to Jasper and proceeding to oh-so-gently-- rip his shirt right off. She kept the bundle of fabric in her lap afterward, humming some kind of light-hearted, jazzy tune as she hovered her knife over the bullet lodged in his shoulder. "Bite your lip- I`ll feel guilty if you scream." Without further ado-- Jo then lodged her knife into Jasper`s wound, precisely and cleanly popping the bullet out a moment later. Next, she turned her attention to his side- leaning in some to get a better look of the wound without her shadow obscuring the sunlight. Then, she sucked in a breath-- and lodged her knife into that wound, effectively popping out that bullet as well. Both bullets had landed helplessly onto the ground- and Jo stopped to wipe some blood off her knife onto her pants before putting the weapon away again. She flapped open Jasper`s wrinkled shirt then-- and ripped it half, tying the longer half around his mid-section to cover the wound on his side, then used the rest to make an effort at wrapping his shoulder tightly.
After tying little knots on both to ensure they stayed in place- she allowed herself to casually fall back onto her bottom, placing her forearms atop her knees. Jo was somewhat beyond minuscule movements to avoid worsening her own wounds at this point-- they`d heal on their own, the human body was great like that. She knew she would have tried to offer a smile at this point- but, instead, she brought a hand up to comb through her hair again, still looking quite frustrated. "...So, how you doin`--?"

Zombie kind of sat there, not really knowing what to do with himself "..." Rommel looked like shit, Jasper looked like shit, Jo was shit. Nathan saw as Rommel seemed to be taken off to the walls, hopefully to be fixed up alongside Inna whom was hopefully still alive. Standing up on the chair, the assassin limped forward, looking to Jasper. Maybe he should talk to him? That may help- yeah-but then Jo approached him. Well then. Zombie turned his back on the two, no need getting in the way of that. Letting out a sigh, the assassin sat back down "Heh... alone again huh...?" Zombie let out a big sigh "Maybe..." Zombie looked over to a wrist mounted device that had somehow not been broken when fighting Tate. Maybe... maybe Chelsea wasn't busy...? Nathan looked around to make sure no one was watching "..." he typed into the device "Hey Chel" was the best he could come up with. Trying to keep it cool. Yeah...!
