No Man's Land: Lore NoMansland-1

No Man's Land is run by a PMC known as -Paladin-, it was originally designed as a city with a defense system to stop atomic bombs. It was redesigned nearly 50 years ago when the world nearly destroyed itself in economic and social ruin. Nukes did not destroy the world, but society did. Crime became a rampant problem in the world, and because of this, prisons were made by the various nations that at one point made up the United States. But none were as great as No Man's Land, the prison created in the neutral land of the Mohave Desert. Only the most dangerous criminals in the world are sent to No Man's Land, this includes political prisoners.

The City: It is surrounded by massive walls that dwarf even the sky scrapers of the city, there is a holographic shield that forms a barrier in the sky, the walls are impossible to break out of, only one prisoner in the prison's century long history has escaped, and that prisoner was brought back in. Soldiers with technology far ahead of even the most advanced military guard every inch of the interior of the wall. Very rarely does -Paladin- send guards into the city, it isn't their concern what goes on inside the city so long as they don't break out. There is an incredibly complex security system keeping watch over the walls. The city itself resembles any other city if it lay in ruin, imagine a city that has continuously withered and been destroyed over a century, but was never repaired. The City is split into five sections: The Gate, Inner City, Highend, Funland, and Market.

Sections: The Gates are the part of the city that a prisoner is first brought into, it is considered the most dangerous part of No Man's Land. For the most part is it mostly populated by low-level criminals and the insane, both pose a danger to any newcomers. It is considered one of the most ruthless sections of No Man's Land, one mistake can lead to your death. There is a rumor that a mysterious "Inquisitor" is actually gathering up the insane of No Man's Land to this area. The Inner City would be the section that makes up most of No man's Land, buildings, sky scrapers, all in ruins, but still livable. Most of No Man's Land lives here. Funland is the least populated area of No Man's Land, an abandoned amusement park that is only home to a few eccentric criminals or the insane that are not at The Gate. The Market was originally where -Paladin- distributed supplies to keep the people of No Man's Land living. No it has grown into a full grown "Black" Market where literally anything can be bought. There are plenty of corrupt people in -Paladin-, people willing to bring in luxury goods, weapons, and drugs. There is no currency in No Man's Land, and to get something from The Market, you must trade it for something of equal value. Finally, there's Highend, the part of the city that is restored, it's owned by the Mafia. Another series of walls is brought up to keep Highend from the rest of the city, to get into Highend, one needs to have ties with The Family. Highend is like living in any expensive part of a city, it's clean, everyone has a butler, and if you make one mistake you will be stabbed in the back.

No Man's Land: Lore Map-1_zps1ed5a4be

Characters: (Important) The world if No Man's Land is interesting, at a glance it looks just like our world, but it is a very strange world. There are no "Powers" or the such, but there are very strange happenings. Mutants, cyborgs, and even psychics are possible, but are very rare. When making a character, use the Batman Rule, named in honor of Batman's villains. How out there can your character be? Look at Batman's villains, if your character is too strong to fit into that, or too strange, then you've gone too far. Use the Batman rule when making your character. You're allowed to go really out there when making a character, but don't push it.

Factions: There are two main factions in No Man's Land. Vulture Team and Conqueror Worm, both have different views upon No Man's Land's place in the world. Vulture Team is made up of criminals who wish to stay in No Man's Land, whether because they believe that everyone deserves their sentence in this city, or because life is better for them here. The other half would be Conqueror Worm, which was founded by the first person to ever escape No Man's Land. This person realized that the world was in shambles, in truth, No Man's Land is no better than anywhere else in the world. When this prisoner was sent back to No Man's Land, a realization came to mind, some of the most talented and dangerous people in the world were gathered in this city. If everyone in No Man's Land united, they could easily overpower -Paladin-, and go out into the world. There, they could easily conquer lands and create a great nation, possibly even an empire. These two factions are engaged in a blood war against each other, Conqueror Worm sees Vulture Team as a threat to their goal: uniting No Man's Land. Meanwhile, Vulture Team doesn't want to get involved in such ambitious goals that will most likely lead to bloody failure.

Third Party Factions: No Man's Land isn't truly split between two factions, and their blood war has overshadowed the other factions. These factions watch the war from the sidelines, some are disinterested, other are waiting for the right moment to get involved. There are three powerful third party factions: The Family, The Black Dragon Clan, and The Inquisitor. These three all pose a massive threat to the other two factions if they were to get involved in the war somehow. The Family is the faction that owns Highend, the most powerful mobsters and hitmen in No Man's Land, all of them are members of an Italian Mafia Family, this faction is the richest in No Man's Land. The Black Dragon Clan is run by a mysterious woman known as The Mistress, an "Ageless" woman that united various yakuza, triad, and assassin organizations. Unlike the other factions, The Black Dragon Clan is more than a collection of individuals, it is a true organization. It's influence goes far further than No Man's Land, it stretches across the world. The head of the organization, including The Mistress, is housed in No Man's land, why? Because from here, no one can get to them, at least no one that's truly a threat. The Black Dragon Clan is the most shadowy of the organizations, it's spies and assassins are one to be reckoned with. Finally, there is The Inquisitor, he is an enigma, what is known about him is that he likes playing with his prey, and that he's somehow managed to gather the criminally insane of No Man's Land into one spot, just what he plans to do with them is still unknown.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Sun Jul 21, 2013 7:37 pm

Vulture Team

Vulture Team was formed by three criminals: Homewrecker, Inferno, and Blood Knife. It's leader, Homewrecker, is an undercover Paladin agent, who founded the organization with the sole purpose of bringing down Conqueror Worm. As far as the organization is concerned, it has about 5000 members throughout the entire city, though they are spread out and many are not involved in the street battles fought in the gang war. Vulture Team's main enemy is Conqueror Worm. The two officers considered Vulture Team's "Leaders" are Homewrecker and Curveball, though Vulture Team does not have official leadership. Vulture Team is different from Conqueror Worm in that its members often share deep relationships, and for the most part its officers are all on good terms. Vulture Team is less organized than Conqueror Worm, and relies more on guerrilla tactics rather than fighting its battles head on. Vulture Team always has a strategy to even the playing field before any major battle.

In the past there have been several collections of criminals who have gained renown throughout the ages. The first would be known as "The Fearsome Foursome": Josephine Beaumont, Elliot Payne, Bunny Mio, and Akuryo Beckwood were its members. In the early days of the gang war they were considered Vulture Team's "Heavy Hitters". All were high profile criminals, and masters of certain fighting styles: Elliot with explosives, Jo with CQC, Bunny Mio with the sniper rifle, and Akuryo Beckwood with the knife. The Fearsome Foursome is no longer a title used after Akuryo Beckwood defected from Vulture Team. Another past group of infamous criminals would be known as "The Three Vulture Generals", the leadership of Vulture Team. It's members were Josephine, Ryder, and Gangsta Pimp. The three were known as Vulture Team's greatest leaders whose leadership made Vulture Team grow tremendously. After the death of Gangsta Pimp, Josephine and Ryder are still leading Vulture Team.

Vulture Team wishes to stop Conqueror Worm in its conquest of No Man's Land and prevent it from becoming the "Empire" it seeks to become. Many of its members have a personal grudge against its leader Jade for various reasons. Vulture Team is not actively seeking to escape No Man's Land, and in many cases is against criminals escaping the city, especially those in Conqueror Worm who would most likely cause even more chaos in the outside world.

Subfactions

Ryder's Gang

With the help of Jo's connections in Paladin, Ryder's gang was brought into No Man's Land from other prisons. Collected in Vulture Team, these gang members form an elite force led by Ryder and Wynn. Ryder's gang uses baseball terminology in battle, and before the Gang War they were involved in the destruction of several cities. Despite seeming to be an ordinary street gang, they are far from it, and posses the strength to take on entire defense forces protecting cities.

Assassin Angels

After a month worth of time, and Jo's help, some of the assassins from Bunny's league arrived into the city. Each other has an array of talents, ranging from snipers, to trappers, to your basic killer. Bunny Mio is the leader of these angels, and though it's mostly girls, there are men as well. Their are tiny leaders as well, such as Kat Mc Lowen, to help within the ranks and keep people in line.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:28 pm

Conqueror Worm

Conqueror Worm was formed by "Subject 8", also known as Doctor Jade Fenton. Its purpose is the eventual control of all of the North American continent. Subject 8 was the first prisoner to escape No Man's Land, after his escape, he saw the world in the state it currently is: ravaged, chaotic, only small nations littering the entire world. The world was decaying, and Subject 8 saw it all, eventually he was caught again by Paladin and brought back in. But the damage was done, with Subject 8's vision, he would create an organization capable of taking over No Man's Land, a city holding some of the most talented and dangerous individuals in the world. Conqueror Worm would take No Man's Land entirely, break out, and then go on to conquer all. Conqueror Worm has a "join or die" mentality, anyone that is not in Conqueror Worm is their enemy. Conqueror Worm's main enemy is Vulture Team, whom is dead set on bringing down their organization.

Conqueror Worm started out small, with Jade Fenton, his nurses, and Kraven and his Deathworhsippers. The faction grew into a huge, organized force over time, taking over the smaller factions in No Man's Land until it became one of the largest organizations in the city. Every Officer in Conqueror Worm has an army in Conqueror Worm, and while Conqueror Worm is more organized than a faction like Vulture Team, every officer and his/her faction is allowed to work independently for the good of the organization. In Conqueror Worm's history, there have been several groups of criminals that have made a name for themselves. In the past the Faction was split in three, led by Jade, Kraven, and Hannibal Krieg, known collectively as "The Conquerors". The three had equal power for some time until Hannibal's betrayal of Conqueror Worm. Since the betrayal Kraven and Jade have begun to work better together for the betterment of Conqueror Worm. Ripper, Gari Bellua, and Rourke known as "The Killer Three" were some of Jade's most loyal officers in the early days of the Gang War.

Subfactions

The Nurses

Jade's personal bodyguard and medical staff, hand picked by Jade and trained to perform field surgery as well as to become lethal fighters on the battlefield. Everyone from their skills to their looks is looked upon before being chosen as a nurse by Jade. The two most well known nurses in Conqueror Worm are Catherine and Mocha. All of Jade's nurses are female, and usually specialized in different skills. As Jade's bodyguards, they usually follow him at all times and are very loyal to him.

Deathworshippers

Kraven's followers, and Conqueror Worm's spec ops unit. Their traditional garb is a dark robe and a skull mask, but in combat they rarely dress in such recognizable clothing. Specialized in stealth and gunplay, the Deathworshippers are only called in by Conqueror Worm in the worst of times. They are ill suited for anything but killing, and will sometimes attack their allies if they get in the way. the Deathworshippers are fanatically loyal to Kraven, they revere him as a "Prophet" and will die for him. The say is "A Deathworshipper doesn't die until he takes down about five men with him" and this saying is very close to the truth. Bombs are hooked up to every Deathwoshipper, if their heart stops the bomb will explode killing everyone immediately close to them. Deathworshippers who are aware of their imminent demise will often charge up to their enemies to take them down with them. Most Deathworshippers dress in normal clothing to get the drop on their enemy in combat.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Sun Jul 21, 2013 9:00 pm

The Inquisitor Faction

The Inquisitor Faction is not only an organization in No Man's Land, but a worldwide crime syndicate lead by the titular "Inquisitor". For some amount of years the faction was without its leader, operating on its own and decaying over time. But recently The Inquisitor has made an appearance in No Man's Land and has taken control of his criminal organization one again. The Inquisitor faction practically owns the Gate and Funland areas of No Man's Land. It has the most manpower out of any faction, it has access to hordes of followers. It is also the only faction to currently use vehicles, particularly motorcycles. This gives them a specialization that the other factions do not have. The Inquisitor Faction has a clear chain of command, with The Inquisitor clearly in charge and without any detractors. However unlike Conqueror Worm, The Inquisitor is very kind to his followers, even if they make mistakes, and their footmen are very loyal. Despite having greater numbers, The Inquisitor Faction's footmen are very poorly trained, and at least three or so of their footmen are needed to take down another footmen from another faction.

The Inquisitor Faction's main foe is Black Dragon, whom their leader hates with a passion for sending him to No Man's Land. The Inquisitor Faction has joined the Gang War not because of any beliefs but to gain a stronger power base in the city. The Inquisitor Faction's goal is to rival the Black Dragon in size and power then destroy it. As the third faction in the Gang War, it is single handily responsible for turning it from a contained situation into a war that involves the whole city. This was intentional to draw out the other two major powers in No Man's Land and get them involved as well. The Inquisitor Faction intends to use this war to take all of No Man's Land, allowing for them to destroy the Black Dragon's leadership.

Subfactions

The Carnival of Crime

Not so much of a subfaction as it is half the faction. The Carnival of Crime is the faction that owns Funland, who have sworn loyalty to The Inquisitor. The Carnival of Crime is also the leadership of Funland. They are a travelling Carnival of criminals, as the name implies. The various members of it are viewed as the greatest criminals in Funland, and a very tight knit group. The Carnival of Crime is also very big on using people with mutations, and are more open minded towards those who look abnormal than the other factions.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Sat Aug 03, 2013 7:37 pm

Terminology

Well the RP has gone on long enough for some terminology to develop as the story has gone on! Quite a lot has been thrown around, so I'll just focus on some essentials, including some new terms that popped up over the time skip

- Super Drugs: Special drugs originally developed by powerful cartels for their enforcers. These Super Drugs often give its users enhanced abilities, but are highly addictive to the user. The most infamous Super Drug is known as Trollblood, which gives its user enhanced strength and durability, causing the user to develop green or blue skin and fangs, and is highly addictive.

- Paladin Tech: The outside world's technology is far ahead of No Man's Land when it comes to weaponry and tools of war, everything else, not so much. Paladin Tech is what the inmates call any advanced technology that gets itself smuggled into No Man's Land. The technology is highly sought over but has become much more common since The Inquisitor incident.

- Freakshows: Any sort of mutant, those with different appearances than any normal human. Stegs, Hannibal, and Buddi are good examples of Freakshows. A Freakshow is not a definite term, there is no clear definition for a mutant either. Anyone who is really "different" is often named a Freakshow, please note that this term is not seen as a derogatory term by inmates, but a badge of honor.

- Cybernetics: Cybernetics are advanced technology that is placed to upgrade the human body in some way. A Cybernetics user would best be known as a "Cyborg". This can range from anything to replacement limbs, a true half man-half machine hybrid, or even a simple enhancement to upgrade eyesight or the like. Cybernetics aren't extremely popular to most inmates, for obvious reasons many are not keen on turning themselves into cyborgs and losing a part of their humanity. However, those wh do use cybernetics often grant themselves access to a whole new array of possibilities.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Sat Aug 10, 2013 9:08 pm

The Family

The Family is one of the oldest criminal organizations in No Man's Land. The first inmates to be admitted into the city were those from organized crime, and many white collar criminals who had caused collateral or economic damage to various nations. These individuals, used to the organized crime of the outside world would go on to form The Family. Lead by a council of mob bosses, run by an endless stream of white collar criminals, and enforced by No Man's Land's most elite killers, The Family is not a force to be trifled with. For decades The Family was considered the governing body of No Man's Land, developing a peace that most of the world would consider impossible from a city of criminals Yet the plan for a unified and peaceful No Man's Land was almost a reality. However any chances of a peaceful city were destroyed by the "Civil War" that woudl erupt in the city. With new challengers such as Vulture Team, Conqueror Worm, and The Inquisitor Faction, The Family is the old veteran of the group. Made up of veteran criminals and older men, The Family is the most experienced and well organized organization.

The Family is the richest faction, they own Highend, a perfectly civilized part of the city with electricity and running water. They have the most advanced technology available to their enforcers, and most importantly, they are adepts when it comes to Cybernetics. Cybernetics are given to nearly all of their officers provided they accept them. This makes The Family's officers the most powerful faction in the world. Their major weakness are hackers, who can weaken their cybernetics. The Family is on better terms with Black Dragon, and hate Conqueror Worm and Vulture Team. Although the council of mob bosses rule The Family on paper, the man who runs the enforcement and assassination duties of the organization known as "The Don" is considered the most senior member and the most respected.

Council of Gentlemen

The Family's cybernetic assassins, unlike the freelance hitmen that they more commonly use, the Council of Gentlemen are legitimate members of the organization rather than associates. Each member is heavily augmented with Cybernetics, making them cyborgs. They are implanted with cybernetics that will kill them in the case that they betray the organization. In return they are considered at the same level as any mob boss in the organization, and the highest ranked assassins in the organization. To join the organization, you must be invited by The Don to join it, it goes to say that membership is VERY exclusive. It should be noted that despite its title, both men and women are allowed in it. The Codenames for the Council of Gentlemen are also special, with men having their codenames start with "Mister" and women having their code name begin with "Misses"

Freelancer Assassins & Hitmen

Unlike the other factions, The Family is not made out of fighters that are capable of taking on the other factions head on. because of this, The Family hires the world's most elite and sought after assassins. They are not considered official members of The Family but rather "Associates", however they are paid more than enough for their loyalties. Many assassins actually admit themselves into No Man's Land just for a chance to work for The Family.

No Man's Land: Lore Empty Re: No Man's Land: Lore

Post  Amazing Pan-Sensei Thu Sep 05, 2013 12:20 pm

Black Dragon

Surely there is no faction more mysterious and powerful than the Black Dragon. The Black Dragon have bid their time for so long in this war, but they have been behind everything. This lore section will not tell you everything about this organization, but it will outline the major organization and projects that Black Dragon has participated in. The first fact about the Black Dragon is that they are partly responsible for the deterioration of the world, while the tyranny of the empires that ruled Earth started this deterioration, Black Dragon was the one to change this planet into the world it is now. The second is that this organization is exactly 200 years old, founded in 1842. It's leader The Mistress is said to be just as old, though considering recent sightings of her the more popular theory is that the title of "The Mistress" is passed on from leader to leader. Black Dragon is an organization that serves The Mistress, and is eternally loyal to her. They do not work for her, they are her children and students.

Who are the Black Dragon?

Black Dragon is known by many names, many of its outlets seem to be perfectly legal in nature, at least from an outsider's view. It's most popular name is -PALADIN-, which is a branch of Black Dragon. Another would be the Black Dragon Clan, which is made up of its greatest assassins and martial artists. The Black Dragon Clan primarily operates on Scarlet City and does not operate in No Man's Land. The branch of Black Dragon in No Man's Land is known as the Heavenly Truth, those who are the most loyal to The Mistress, they are considered her disciples and students. They were originally led by Kraven, then Hannibal Krieg, and more recently Hal Innsmouth, whom is also a high ranking Paladin Officer. The Krieg Forces are the footmen of Black Dragon, they were highly trained and have numbers equal to that of the current Conqueror Worm army. Even after the death of Hannibal Krieg these forces stay loyal to The Mistress. Every member of Heavenly Truth has a code name in the pattern of "The X of Black Dragon". For example Kraven was known as "The Fists of the Black Dragon" and Hal Innsmouth is known as "The Eyes of the Black Dragon."

(Said information bellow can be known by your characters if you have read the disk of information from defunct The Inquisitor Faction, Jade currently has the disk.)

Project Scion

Project Scion was started in the 1970s, it's task was to create a psychic soldier for Black Dragon. A clone using the DNA of an unknown male and The Mistress was used to create a life, which using genetic experimentation had created a child with psychic potential. This in essence gave Black Dragon the ability to create and harvest psychics in their organization, but there are no known psychics operating in No Man's Land. This psychic baby was given to a Black Dragon-sponsored family to raise, the child was intentionally raised to bring out homicidal and sadistic tendencies. The objective was to skew the child in a way that would make him the perfect soldier, and for some time this worked. The psychic joined Black Dragon for some time, but would leave after finding out his origins. He would spend the rest of his life in an attempt to destroy this organization, eventually becoming a powerful crime lord on his own known as The Inquisitor. After the failure of the original clone, the decision was made to no longer use The Mistress' DNA for clones.

Project Goliath

Used to create genetically engineered soldiers of fortune for Black Dragon, it is considered a failure since it's only successful test subject "Buddi" defected to The Inquisitor Faction.

Project Heritage for The Future

Black Dragon brought the world into these circumstances so it could enact this plan. Heritage for The Future has been a project 200 years in the making, it is the very reason for Black Dragon's existence. It is a complex with many factors, of which not all are recorded on this disk. Black Dragon created No Man's Land for this very project, the task was to gather the most ruthless AND talented people from around the world, and to that avail they have succeeded already. PALADIN Industries created a security force to keep the test subjects inside the city at all times, though it's forces are primarily still focused on searching for The Red Masque. The goal was to find a leader, a public figure powerful and charismatic enough to lead the world into a new golden age. Jade Fentom was intentionally allowed to escape from the city so he may be inspired to create Conqueror Worm, The Don has been led down a path by Black Dragon to create The Family, and The Inquisitor was sent to No Man's Land with the sole intention of adding his influence to the mix as another candidate. Josephine Beaumont is not considered a candidate and it is planned for Vulture Team to either be destroyed or acquired by Black Dragon depending on how The Mistress that day. This project is currently considered a failure, Black Dragon no longer considers any of the three candidates acceptable for rule society. Because of this, Project Heavenly Treasure is being brought into motion 200 years earlier.

Project Heavenly Treasure

Project Heavenly Treasure is the follow up project to Project Heritage for The Future. It is set to be in Scarlet City, with the intention of <DATA CORRUPTED>. <DATA CORRUPTED.>. <DATA CORRUPTED> Black Dragon Clan will also enter <DATA CORRUPTED> as a back up plan. <DATA CORRUPTED> Dorthy and <DATA CORRUPTED> Heritage for The Future as a failure. PALADIN will most likely help sponsor <DATA CORRUPTED> and with that <DATA CORRUPTED>. The Mistress <DATA CORRUPTED> Heaven- <DATA CORRUPTED>.
